Perry Lakes Hawks operates a zero-tolerance policy: abuse of referees, players, coaches or spectators can result in immediate removal from the venue — no warnings given — and repeat technical fouls carry match suspensions. Read the policy →
A child-safe club
The Sharks are committed to a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all juniors. Our volunteers and coaches follow child-safe practices, in line with WA law and the Basketball Australia Child Safeguarding Policy.
Working with Children Checks
Any coach, assistant coach, team manager or club official who is not the parent or guardian of a child in the team they are helping must hold a current Western Australian Working with Children (WWC) Check card before taking up the role, in line with the Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004 (WA). The club must be able to sight the card, and no person may coach or supervise juniors until their check has been verified.
The 10 National Principles for Child Safe Organisations
Scarborough Junior Basketball Club is committed to the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations — the standards endorsed by all Australian governments to keep children and young people safe from harm.
Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.
Children and young people are informed about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
Equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.
People working with children and young people are suitable and supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.
Processes for complaints and concerns are child focused.
Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.

Refund policy
Registration secures your child's place for the winter season and covers team entry, court hire and administration — much of which the club commits and pays in advance. Refunds are therefore limited, and are handled as set out below.
How refunds work
The club refunds only the Scarborough (SJBC) club fee. The Perry Lakes Hawks association fee and the Basketball WA fee are set and refunded by those bodies, not by the club.
- Before the regular-season fixtures are released: the club fee is refunded, less a flat $20 administration fee.
- After the regular-season fixtures are released: no refund, other than in the exceptional circumstances below.
Exceptional circumstances. Where a player cannot continue due to a season-ending injury or illness (with a medical certificate), or a permanent move interstate or overseas, a refund may be considered by the committee.
No change-of-mind refunds. Refunds are not provided for a change of mind, loss of form, or team or grade placement.
Uniform. Any refund is paid once the club playing singlet has been returned undamaged. A $50 fee applies to a singlet not returned, or returned lost or damaged.
KidSport. KidSport vouchers cannot be reimbursed by the club — apply for and receive yours before registering.
To request a refund, email treasurer@scarboroughsharks.asn.au with your child's name, team and the reason. The club confirms the fixtures-release cut-off date each season, and refunds remain subject to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
